The Regional Tourism Strategy
The Regional Tourism Strategy (RTS) for the
South and Central Pacific provides the strategic direction for the development
of the tourism sector at the regional level for the next ten years. Three areas
of focus are identified:
- Human
resource development; - Tourism
planning, investment and SME development;
-
Marketing and market research.
Specific regional strategies, objectives and
initiatives have been developed to enable the achievement of the Vision
developed within the Strategy. The RTS has been developed with considerable
input from the regional stakeholders.
Following the 13th Meeting of the Council of
Ministers of Tourism held in Rarotonga, Cook Islands on 24 October 2003, the
Regional Tourism Strategy was endorsed by the SPTO Board of Directors and
Council of Ministers of Tourism.
The final RTS is entitled 'Strategy for
Growth' and is a concise document of less than 20 pages. This main document
is supported by Appendices I to X. Appendix I provides an overview of the
economic and social background to the RTS, whilst Appendix II summarises the key
issues and impediments impacting upon the tourism sector. The remaining
Appendices include a summary of statistics, a description of individual
countries covered by the RTS and a breakdown of priority regional tourism
projects identified as part of the study.
The RTS 'Strategy for Growth' document has been published
and the published version is now available (in PDF format). You may download the
